2004 started off with a project to rid the flowerbed of snails. I dug down and removed the dirt. The concrete from the sidewalk had been poured too large underneath so I cut that back and put a concrete edge on the front of the flowerbed too.

I flew up to Lake Powell with Wayne to check out his houseboat on January 10.  Down to Tucson and the Pima Air and Space museumhttp://community.webshots.com/album/221300255OEJVTR

on the weekend of February 14 and 15. and the next weekend a flight to Globe Arizona and the Apache gold casino for breakfast with Glen and Richard.

Training for hiking the Grand Canyon began with a hike up Flatiron in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix http://www.summitpost.org/show/mountain_link.pl/mountain_id/1082

on March 20th , then Harquahala Mountain west of Wickenburg

May 14th  we drove up to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. The next morning we set out at 8am and hiked down the South Kaibab trail, over the Colorado river across the black bridge and to Phantom Ranch for a lunch break, then back across the river on the silver bridge and up the Bright Angel trail back to the top by 5pm. http://www.nps.gov/grca/grandcanyon/dayhike/index.htm

June 5th was another hike to the summit of Mount Humphreys, where there was still snow on the ground

A flight up to Valle Arizona,  30 miles south of the Grand Canyon on June 26th, to see a small airshow and the aircraft museum there. http://www.valleairport.com/

A hike on the Woodchute trail in the Mountains south of Jerome on July 3rd, showed a lot of trees killed by the bark beetles. On August 21st, using a handheld GPS, I hiked to the scene of a B-24 crash on Mount Humphreys.

I liked Wilson Mountain in Sedona so much, I hiked it again on August 29th.

West of Prescott is Granite Mountain, which I hiked in the early 90’s and was glad to return on Sept 5th.

Glen and I left Phoenix at 4am Friday sept 17th for Reno Nevada and a day at the Reno Air Races. We spent the night in Carson City, and on Saturday flew over the mountains across Lake Tahoe then southwest along the Sierras enroute to a fly-in at Riverside California. The Los Angeles basin was covered in fog so we had breakfast at Apple Valley, stopped in Barstow for gas and came back to Phoenix.  On September 30th George the cat came home. October 16th, a flight to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the annual gathering of homebuilt aircraft models designed by Vans aircraft.

Over 200 planes from all over filled the ramp and 14 from southern California put on a nice formation demonstration. Back up to Lake Powell on October 30th.
