2006

=============================================================================================

online picture notes. (pictures below)

2006 started off with the traditional flight to Laughlin, Nevada (Bullhead City, Arizona)  for brunch with a lot of friends from Arizona and California.  January 7, a flight to Coolidge Arizona, where lots of planes fly in for the Pancake breakfast held the first Saturday of each month, except for summer.

March 25th flight up to Page Arizona, then a flight back through Glen Canyon with a landing at Marble Canyon.  Back to Laughlin on April 24th for the annual Laughlin River Run.

The spring months were filled with the usual hiking – Flatiron, Six Shooter, Harquahala, and others to prepare for the 17 mile hike down the Grand Canyon and back up in one day. That was May 20. Since this was the third year of completing the hike down the South Kaibab and back up the Bright Angel on the South Rim, it was time to do a one-day 24 mile hike from North Rim to South Rim. Down from the North Rim on the North Kaibab trail, across the river and up the south rim on the Bright Angel trail.  That took place June 1st (a Thursday) since it is hard to get weekend rooms on the north rim, less than a year in advance. The north rim is only open from the end of May until the middle of October because of snow.

On Saturday July 1st, I flew with friends in two other planes to Chehalis Oregon, with a stop in Yerington Nevada for fuel. Chehalis is the closest airport to Mount Saint Helens. Flying around St Helens on the way provided a very nice view. A drive to the St Helens visitor center and back to Chehalis ended the day. The next day we drove to Mount Rainier and enjoyed the magnificent views there. Monday morning, a short flight to the north over Olympic National Park and landing at Port Angeles, Washington to visit Olympic National Park for two days. Wednesday morning we made the 30 minute flight to go to the Northwest Regional Fly-in at Arlington Washington for 2 days. On Friday, the flight from Arlington back to Phoenix was completed by early afternoon, with one stop in Battle Mountain Nevada.

In August, hikes included Kendrick Mountain and Mount Humphreys.

September, a flight to Seligman Arizona with several other planes for breakfast at Westside Lilo’s, home of the Route 66 Special breakfast.

October, a trip back to the Land of Enchantment Fly-in in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

The first weekend of November - a flight up to St. George Utah and visit to Zion National Park. The hike up Angels Landing is unique.
